Hettinger-Riddell named Distinguished Young Pharmacist

Kate Hettinger-Riddell, local pharmacist and pillar of the healthcare community, was awarded the Distinguished Young Pharmacist Award at the annual meeting of the Indiana Pharmacy Association. This award is given in recognition of an individual association member who has obtained a degree in pharmacy within the last 10 years who is recognized for their outstanding practice.

Riddell is a lecturer in the Department of Pharmacy Practice at Purdue University College of Pharmacy. In this role she works as a clinical pharmacist at the Purdue University Pharmacy, providing clinical services such as birth control consultations as well as teaching first year pharmacy students about community pharmacy in a combined didactic and experiential course.

Riddell received her PharmD from Butler University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in 2020 and subsequently completed a PGY-1 Community-Based Pharmacy Residency at Topeka Pharmacy with Purdue University. Additionally, she has completed a Community Practice Research Fellowship at Purdue University and obtained her MS degree in Health Services, Outcomes and Policy.

Riddell serves as the Managing Network Facilitator for the Community Pharmacy Enhanced Services Network Indiana network. She is also the president of the Indiana Academy of Independent Pharmacists and works part-time for a local independent pharmacy, Cowan Drugs, in Lebanon.

Her impact extends beyond the confines of the pharmacy walls, as Riddell has been an active advocate for health education and community outreach initiatives. Her tireless efforts have empowered individuals to take charge of their health and well-being, fostering a healthier and more informed community. 

The award is a testament to Riddell’s enduring legacy and serves as a reminder of the transformative power of dedication, compassion and excellence in healthcare.
