The General Lew Wallace Study & Museum’s Hoosier Authors Book Club wraps up its sixth year with a virtual meeting at 7 p.m. Nov. 18 via a Zoom discussion. Books are currently available for checkout at the Carriage House. The book for this meeting is Whistling Past the Graveyard by Susan Crandall.

Set in the summer of 1963 in Mississippi, this coming-of-age story delivers a lifechanging journey undertaken by 9-year-old Starla Jane. Told through a young girl’s point of view, the book nevertheless does not shy away from the political, economic, and racial stresses prevalent across the Southern United States during that decade. Crandall’s deft narrative style brings Starla Jane, Eula, and other characters to life in a vivid and endearing way.

Copies of the book are courtesy of the Indiana Humanities Novel Conversations program. All discussions are free and open to the public. For more information about the Hoosier Authors Book Club and to register for the Zoom link, visit https://www.ben-hur.com/programs/hoosier-authors-book-club/.
