Hudson earns state recognition

A longtime educator has received state recognition for her long list of active volunteer work.

Helen Hudson, Crawfordsville, was recognized with a 2020 Golden Hoosier Award Wednesday from the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration’s Division of Aging. She accepted the award during a virtual ceremony hosted by Lt. Gov. Suzanne Crouch.

Hudson, president of the League of Women Voters of Montgomery County, was one of two-dozen Hoosiers to be recognized. Fellow League member Gail Pebworth nominated her for the award.

Pebworth noted the project spearheaded by Hudson and her Crawfordsville High School students to renovate the local Amtrak station. Hudson is also active with the Local Food Summit team and the Lew Wallace Study Preservation Society.

Other memberships include Humans United for Equality, St. John’s Episcopal Church and Athens Arts.

Pebworth called Hudson an “inspirational leader” and a “gifted writer and teacher.”

“She is a life-long learner who is constantly seeking new issues and answers to pressing concerns,” Pebworth said.

Crouch said the award recipients are “exceptional” role models who have made long-term commitments to volunteering in their communities.

“These unsung leaders make positive impacts on the lives of others and improve the overall wellbeing of our state,” Crouch said in a statement.
