James Randall Garrett of Crawfordsville passed away peacefully April 4, 2024, at home, surrounded by his family.

Randall was born Oct. 28, 1933, at Norwood, Kentucky, to Henry and Mabel Elliott Garrett.

He graduated from New Ross High School where he was his senior class vice president and salutatorian. He served six and half years in the National Guard. Randall then worked as a proofreader and art worker at RR Donnelley’s for 41 years.

Randall married the love of his life, Lucille Bailey, on June 28, 1952. She survives. He was a 50-plus-year member of First Christian Church, where he was an elder, chairman of many committees, taught Sunday school, and went on many mission trips to New Orleans.

Randall was a long-time committee member for the Strawberry Festival and helped build many sets for the Sugar Creek Players at the Vanity Theater. He walked many miles at the Sugar Creek Trails. Randall had a deep love for art, painting, and photography. But most of all, Randall’s joy in life came from spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include: wife Lucille Garrett; son Phillip Garrett; grandchildren, Neil (Melissa) Garrett of Swansea, Illinois, Elizabeth (Jared) Kirby of Crawfordsville and Allison (Brian) Pyle of Crawfordsville; great-grandchildren, Leah, Callaway, Sawyer, Ava and Bryson; brothers, Lee and John Garrett; and several nieces and nephews.

James was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Jerry and Victor Garrett; and infant sister, Joy Elizabeth.
