Rod Gonso, 68, passed away Friday, Nov. 24, 2023, after a long battle with dementia at Bickford of Crawfordsville, surrounded by loving family members.

Rod was born May 16, 1955, at Findlay, Ohio, to the late Harry and Helen Gonso. Rod was the fourth of six siblings.

Rod attended Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, and shortly after graduating moved to Crawfordsville, to start his career as a financial advisor with Edward Jones. Rod spent his entire career with Edward Jones, proudly retiring in 2010. Throughout his career, he helped countless families reach their financial goals. Rod was a true firm legend and bled “Edward Jones” green. Rod proudly transitioned his business to his sons, Brad Gonso and Tyler Baer who still work for the firm in Crawfordsville.

Rod married Lynne (Stevens/Gonso) Hohlbein in 1977 and they had two children, Brad (Andrea) Gonso of Zionsville and Heidi (Matt) Carey of Wilmette. He later married Patti Gonso in 1990 and blended their families welcoming two children, the late Sarah Baer and Tyler (Maria) Baer of Zionsville. Rod and Patti had recently celebrated 33 years of marriage and were proud grandparents of their 7 grandchildren (Beckett, Avery, Benson Gonso, Amelia and Connor Carey, Henrik and Luna Baer). Rod and Patti were active members of the First Christian Church and were very involved in the Crawfordsville community.

Rod will be remembered by the many people who knew and loved him as authentic, ambitious, generous and one-of-a-kind. He had many hobbies including listening to ‘60s and ‘70s rock, fishing, boating and hiking. He enjoyed going to auctions and garage sales, smoking cigars and spending time with family and friends.

A private family service will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery. Contributions to celebrate his life and further dementia research can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association: http://act.alz.org/goto/RodGonso.

All arrangements are entrusted to Hunt and Son Funeral Home.
