Jesús “Chuy” Villalpando was called home to be reunited with his Lord and Savior on Nov. 6, 2023. He was 72 years old.
He was born Nov. 8, 1950, at Jalpa, Zacatecas, Mexico. He was the first of eight children born to Jose Isabel and Socorro Villalpando.
Jesús married the love of his life, Petra (Martinez) Villalpando, on April 19, 1980, at Chicago. They were happily married for 43 years. They were blessed with three children, Noemy, Alfredo and Jesús.
He immigrated to the United States in 1970, where he began a new life in Chicago. In 1992, he moved his family to Crawfordsville, where he continued his employment with Crawford Industries (now Spartech). He was a dedicated employee for 38 years, where he was recognized for being a great employee and having perfect attendance.
Jesús, along with his wife, were faithful members of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church since their arrival in Crawfordsville. He was a man of great faith and could always be found volunteering within the church. He greatly enjoyed hosting cookouts for his family and friends, as he was a wonderful cook. He always found pleasure in spending time with his family, especially with his grandchildren.
He had a great sense of humor, and everyone who spent time with him could always be found laughing. He was a loving husband, a guiding father, a wonderful grandfather and a thoughtful son. He will be greatly missed by all of those who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Jesús is survived by wife Petra; three children, Noemy (Ulises) Vargas, Alfredo (Lindsey) Villalpando and Jesús (Marlene) Villalpando; parents Jose Isabel and Socorro Villalpando; grandchildren, Santiago Vargas, Emma Vargas, Mia Vargas and Chase Villalpando; seven siblings, Obdulia, Homero, Celia, Manuel, Jose Luis, Gloria and Maria Isabel; also, many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 3-7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 13 at Burkhart Funeral Home, 201 W. Wabash Ave. A funeral Mass, led by Father Michael Bower, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 14 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, 1306 E. Main St. After the funeral Mass, Jesús will be laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery.

En la mañana del 6 de noviembre del 2023, Jesús “Chuy” Villalpando, a la edad de 72 años, partió al encuentro con nuestro Padre Dios. Nació el 8 de noviembre de 1950 en Jalpa, Zacatecas, México. Fue el primero de ocho hijos de José Isabel y Socorro Villalpando.
Jesús se casó con el amor de su vida, Petra (Martínez) Villalpando, el 19 de abril de 1980 en Chicago, Illinois. Estuvieron felizmente casados por 43 años. Fueron bendecidos con tres hijos: Noemy, Alfredo y Jesús.
Emigró a los Estados Unidos en el año 1970, donde comenzó una nueva vida en Chicago, Illinois. En 1992, se mudó con su familia a Crawfordsville, Indiana, donde continuó su empleo en Crawford Industries (ahora Spartech). Allí trabajo por 38 años. Durante sus 38 años de empleo, fue reconocido por ser un excelente empleado y su asistencia perfecta.
Jesús, junto con su esposa, fueron feligreses fieles de la Iglesia Católica de San Bernardo desde que llegaron a Crawfordsville. Era un hombre de gran fe y siempre se encontraba trabajando como voluntario dentro de la iglesia. Fue un cocinero maravilloso, y disfrutaba mucho cocinar para su familia y amigos. Siempre encontró placer en pasar tiempo con su familia, especialmente con sus nietos.
Se le recordara por su gran sentido de humor y porque siempre hacia reír a todos los que lo rodeaban. Fue un esposo amoroso, un padre ejemplar, un abuelo maravilloso y un hijo atento. Todos aquellos que tuvieron el placer de conocerlo lo extrañaran muchísimo.
A Jesús le sobreviven su esposa Petra; sus tres hijos Noemy (Ulises) Vargas, Alfredo (Lindsey) Villalpando y Jesús (Marlene) Villalpando; sus padres José Isabel y Socorro Villalpando; sus nietos Santiago Vargas, Emma Vargas, Mia Vargas y Chase Villalpando; sus siete hermanos Obdulia, Homero, Celia, Manuel, José Luis, Gloria y María Isabel; y muchos sobrinos.
El velorio será el lunes 13 de noviembre de 3 p.m. a 7 p.m. en Burkhart Funeral Home, 201 W. Wabash Ave. El martes 14 de noviembre a las 11 a.m. será la Misa fúnebre en la Iglesia Católica de San Bernardo, 1306 E. Main St. La Misa la celebrará el Padre Michael Bower. Después de la Misa será la procesión al cementerio Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
