Josephine Maxine Anderson, formerly of Crawfordsville, passed away Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 10, 2024, at Hillcrest Village in Jeffersonville, Indiana, at the age of 97.
Maxine was a long-time member of the First Assembly of God in Crawfordsville. She attended school in Winchester, Illinois. She taught in a one-room schoolhouse, then worked at RR Donnelley, where she met her husband. She later worked in the school cafeteria and nursing home.
Born July 23, 1926, at Titusville, Florida, she was the daughter of Joseph Leitze and Jeanetta Belle Hammon Leitze. She married Eugene “Andy” Anderson on Jan. 30, 1954, at Crawfordsville. He passed away Feb. 3, 2012.
Surviving family includes: daughter Julie (Steve) Hester of Charlestown, Indiana; son James D. (Karen) Anderson of St. Augustine, Florida; six granddaughters; nine great-grandsons; five great-granddaughters; and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and daughter Mary Howard.
Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16 at First Assembly of God, 2070 Lebanon Road. Services will begin at 2 p.m., led by Pastor Rich Fuller. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery North. Arrangements were entrusted to Burkhart Funeral Home.
