Jury trial set for ex-Chamber employee

A December jury trial has been set for the former employee accused of stealing more than $22,000 last year from the Crawfordsville/Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce.

Abigail J. Hedrick, who was the Chamber’s executive assistant, allegedly wrote 15 checks to herself between June and August 2019 from a Chamber account using the then-director’s signature stamp. Some of the checks were written after the director resigned to take another job.

Following an investigation, Hedrick was arrested on multiple theft and counterfeiting charges in November. The Chamber fired her days later.

Fountain County’s Stephanie Campbell was appointed as special judge in the case after Montgomery Superior Court Judge Heather Barajas recused herself. Hedrick’s attorney filed a notice of defense of mental disease or defect.

The three-day trial is set to begin at 8:30 a.m. Dec. 15 in Montgomery Superior Court.
