Crawfordsville Kiwanis has kicked off its 30th year of Operation: Toybox.

The annual toy drive was founded by Dave and Gloria Long with the sole purpose of, as Gloria said, ensuring that every child will have that “one new toy under the tree on Christmas morning.”

Operation: Toybox works with the Montgomery County Youth Service Bureau which identifies families in need to receive these toys on Christmas morning. Crawfordsville Kiwanis took over the management of the toy drive from the Longs in 2019 and since that time has served almost 300 children.

New, unwrapped toys for children through age 16 will be collected at various collection sites. Those sites include: Bealls, Chase Bank, Christi Hubler Chevrolet, Crawfordsville Community Center, Crawfordsville Electric Power & Light, Creek Jewelers, Discovery Preschool, First Merchants Bank, Fountain Trust Co., Gould Body & Paint, Jack’s Donuts, Journal Review, JTR Repair, Kroger, Little Mexico, Savvy Chic, Stevenson’s Ace Hardware, The Paper of Montgomery County, Town & Country Homecenter, Tri-County Bank, Walgreens and York Chrysler.

The last day to contribute toys will be Dec. 14.
