Knights donates to Special Olympics

Posted

The local Knights of Columbus Council presented a check recently to the Special Olympics of Montgomery/Parke County in the amount of $15,221. This money was from last year’s Tootsie Roll Campaign in June. This money will be used by the Special Olympics to help athletes participate in the State competition in Terre Haute. The local Special Olympics have more than 25 athletes that are involved in several different events throughout the year.

The money that the Knights were able to donate came from the annual Tootsie Roll Drive that the local council has held every year since the founding of the Special Olympics. This local council has ranked in the top 10 in the state for several years in this fund raiser. This money is collected from local business, fraternal organizations and most importantly from the people of Crawfordsville. The Knights collect money on the street for two days a year. This year the collection will be Friday and Saturday. Of course, when you stop by at one of the intersections to make a donation, the Knight will give you a Tootsie Roll. Thus, the name of our drive is the Tootsie Roll Drive.

The collection includes coins or bills, it all adds up. Anything is very much appreciated. Please stop and get a Tootsie Roll.
