Lawrence “Pete” Edward Mattingly, 87, went to be with our Lord at 8:20 p.m. Feb. 3, 2024, in Tavares, Florida.

Pete was born Jan. 4, 1937, at Webster, Kentucky, to parents Mary Frances Biddle (Claycomb) and George Allen Mattingly.

Pete is preceded in death by his parents; brother David Claycomb; sister Ann Holcombe; first wife Norma Mattingly; three sons, Michael “Mick” Mattingly, Clifford “Greg” Mattingly and Leroy “Wayne” Mattingly; and granddaughter Alison Paige Acton.

Pete is survived by second wife, Ruth Mattingly; three brothers, Gary Claycomb, Marty Claycomb and Scott Mattingly; five sisters, Barbara Keene, Mary Webb, Linda Faye England, Sue Claycomb and Marguerite Davenport; daughter Kathy Snyder; son Stephen “Pete” Mattingly; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Pete served in the Armed Forces, and was a truck driver and owner of Mattingly Trucking out of Wingate. He called the small town of Wingate his home for many years, where he made many friends. He loved to play the harmonica, as well as the keyboard. He had a wonderful sense of humor, and a kind heart. There are many who consider him to be a father-figure in their lives. Pete’s greatest love was his family. He was very dedicated to his family and being there for all of them.

Family in Florida have chosen cremation, and will hold a celebration of life at a later date to be determined. Family in Indiana will also hold a celebration of life, also at a later date to be determined. Family encourages friends of Pete to reach out and keep in touch.
