Lester “Max” Servies, 95, of Crawfordsville, passed away Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at Wellbrooke of Crawfordsville.

He was born June 27, 1928, at Ladoga, to the late Foster D. and Catherine (Blessing) Servies.

Max graduated from New Market High School in 1946 and proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1950-1952. On March 23, 1951, he married Norma “Jean” Servies. She preceded him in death July 28, 2004.

He was a linotype operator at RR Donnelley & Sons for 30 years. He established the U-Rent-It Center in Crawfordsville in 1964 with his brothers, Charles and Paul, and continued operating and owning the business for 53 years. He was on the Crawfordsville City Council and the Park and Recreation Board in the 1970’s. He was always interested in the development of Crawfordsville and was very community oriented.

He loved playing cards, going to casinos and spent his winters in Florida for over 30 years. He was a member of the American Legion Post 72, Elks and the American Rental Association.

He is survived by his children, Stephen Servies, Sally (Dennis) Coons, Susan Nelson and Stan (Laura) Servies; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; brother Paul Thomas Servies; sister-in-law Margaret Servies; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Jean; brothers, Donald, Edward and Charles Servies; sisters, Mary Alice Servies and Sue Becker; and great-granddaughter Lillian Sewell.

Visitation will be at Sanders Priebe Funeral Care, 315 S. Washington St., Crawfordsville, on Monday, April 29 from 11 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at noon. Entombment will follow at Oak Hill Mausoleum.
