Acuity donates to Veterans Memorial Park

Acuity Brands Lighting recently was honored as the Big Business of the Year by the Crawfordsville/Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce. On Tuesday, the company was being a community leader once again.

Acuity employees, local veterans and board members of the Veterans Memorial Park gathered to celebrate the announcement that the manufacturer was donating the lighting for the project.

Acuity will provide the design, lights and installation for the park located on the grounds of the American Legion Post 72 in Crawfordsville.

Vice Commander Mike Spencer said the donation is of great value and he appreciates the generosity of the local manufacturer.

“We were thrilled when Acuity told us they would take care of lighting the park,” Spencer said. “They are the light professionals in town, and it is great they are willing to help us make this park a beautiful sight to see.”

When approached by the local park committee for help with the lighting, Acuity did not waste time in agreeing to be a part of the project.

“The instant we were asked to help we were all in,” Acuity manager Larry Meadows said. “We are supplying the lights and using local electricians for installation. We are honored to help.”

Chris Thompson, Acuity regional sales manager and Crawfordsville resident, said the project is one that aligns with his company’s goal to be good neighbors to Crawfordsville community.

With the neighbors in mind, Acuity wanted to make sure the park lighting does not become a nuisance to neighbors.

“We wanted to provide a good illumination on the park and at the same time be mindful of the neighborhood,” Thompson said. “We want the park to be seen from the highway but not shine into the nearby homes.”

Meadows said it was natural for the company to contribute to the park.

“The reason for Acuity to help is two-fold,” Meadows said. “It is a good way to get involved with the community and it is a natural fit with the lighting aspect.”

Approximately 50 veterans are employed at the local Acuity facility. Thompson said the company is grateful to have the opportunity to serve veterans and the community. All the lighting materials are being produced in the Crawfordsville facility.

“This is our town, our people and our product,” Thompson said. “We are proud to help out.”

Spencer said some of the military pieces from a war museum in Virginia will soon be delivered to the park.

To complete the park, donations are still needed. To donate drop off a check at Post 72, 101 Walter Remley Drive or call the Post at 765-362-9921.
