It should not come without notice and sincere appreciation of the continued vision and financial support of the Montgomery County Council and leadership of Sheriff Ryan Needham to strengthen our service with more school resource officers in our schools. I echo the same sentiment to the administration of Crawfordsville Schools and the city leadership of Crawfordsville as well. I know first hand these agencies work collaboratively and effectively together.
Most public forums do not realize that schools have to apply for an annual competitive grant to fund their school resource officers that we now have. This has been an historic process now going on for decades — an antiquated hat in hand process that demands better state funding leadership than what we are receiving. I have worked with all of our resource officers for years in the community. The prevention strategies and genuine dedication of all of our officers in our schools is commendable.
Thank you to all our public agencies for making this a safer place to live and work. That is why we are a community of choice.
