Letter: Investment really from taxpayers

Posted

The front page story by the Indiana Capital Chronicle published April 17 in the Journal Review stated that Governor Eric Holcomb had invested $10 million for volunteer firefighters in Indiana. Actually the investment was made by taxpayers.

The article went on to say that the only funding for volunteer firefighters was the tax from the sale of fireworks. The fact is that volunteer fire departments are funded by local property taxes. In rural townships in Indiana more than 50% of the township budget appropriation is for fire departments.
