This is regards to the League of Women Voters column that was published June 9. The editorial “Rainbow represents promise of life and liberty” was interesting to say the least.
Not once was the Bible mentioned where the rainbow originated or the true “promise” that was made there by God. It was a promise made to mankind that God would not betray the earth again by the use of water. God had just destroyed all mankind (except Noah and family) by the flood because people were not following His plan/word (Bible).
Genesis 9:16 (NIV), “Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth.”
God created the rainbow and it belongs to Him. God’s rainbow has seven colors. Interestingly, according to Strong’s Dictionary, even the word “rainbow” has seven letters. God’s rainbow represents His goodness, His mercy and grace, His love and longsuffering, and, most of all, it is a reminder that His promises are true and faithful. The true rainbow will never represent, nor can it ever celebrate, any sinful behavior.
Gay Christian? Oxymoron?
Calling oneself a Christian and remaining a practicing homosexual is a direct contradiction of biblical teaching.
First, let me say we all have sinned, but once we learn of that sin we must stop practicing it.
In the Bible, there are multiple times in both the Old and New Testament, where homosexuality and other immoral activities are explicitly condemned as dishonorable to God and the natural order (the way things were designed to work) and as destructive to those involved with them. An entire chapter in the Old Testament lists certain activities and calls them “detestable,” stating in no uncertain terms, “stay away!” The New Testament uses five terms to describe both male and female homosexual conduct: “unnatural,” “perverted,” “degrading,” “shameful” and “indecent.”
Why was Sodom and Gamorah destroyed? People were not following His plan/word then either. Jude 1:7, sexual immorality and pursued unnatural desire, also in Leviticus 18:22 You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination.
Maybe we all should have pride. The Bible is clear that it’s OK to encourage and admonish each other and to take pride in the good works of God and His creation. We can be proud to be children of God, but we cross into sin when pride revolves around ourselves.
