How about Humility Month? We have days/months for many celebrations, so why not one for humility?
Why don’t we celebrate being humble or having humility?
Many years ago, when the famous heavyweight boxer, Muhammad Ali, was in his prime, he boarded a plane. As the plane was about to take off, the stewardess reminded him to fasten his seat belt. He came back brashly, “Superman don’t need no seat belt.” The stewardess quickly came back, “Superman don’t need no airplane, either.” Ali fastened his belt.
Websters definition of humility is “freedom from pride or arrogance: quality or state of being humble.”
The Bible’s definition: Humility in the Bible is presented as the practice of meekness, obedience to God, respect of self and others, submissiveness and modesty, James 4:10 ESV.
Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you, Colossians 3:12-13.
As God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience, 1 Peter 5:6 ESV.
Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you. People with humility put others’ needs before their own, sacrificing for the love of others.
Sounds like something we should celebrate or at least consider having more of it in our lives.
