BROWNSBURG — Wabash College earned victories in Flight A and Flight C singles and in doubles competition while hosting the 2026 Intercollegiate Tennis Association NCAA Division III Central Region Fall Tournament at Brownsburg High School.
Samuel Soto Garcia opened play in the Flight A singles draw with a dominant 6-0, 6-1 victory over Tristan Bonanni of Kalamazoo College. Soto Garcia advanced to the second round, where Jesse Yang of the University of Chicago defeated him 6-1, 6-2.
Rafael Rin also competed in the Flight A draw and pushed Edvard Veres Bergsten of the Illinois Institute of Technology to three sets in the opening round. Rin won the second set before falling 7-5, 4-6, 10-1. Tyler Thomas of Otterbein defeated Rin 6-2, 6-2 in the opening round of the consolation bracket.
Wabash produced several victories in the Flight C singles draw, led by Bernardo Furtado’s run to the consolation final. Furtado lost his opening match to Joao Vitor Espindola of Lake Forest College 6-3, 6-4 before winning three consecutive matches in the consolation bracket.
Furtado opened consolation play with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Mason Wolfe of Earlham College. He advanced to the semifinals with a 6-1, 6-3 quarterfinal win against Jeff Wernsing of Illinois College before defeating Franklin College’s Marcus Cox 6-4, 6-1 in the semifinal round. Furtado was scheduled to face Santiago Jurado Enriquez of the Illinois Institute of Technology in the consolation final, but the match was not played.
Faustino Dimuro earned a main-draw victory in Flight C, defeating Landon Bassett of Trine University 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) in the opening round. Dimuro battled Andrew Paul of Hope College through three sets in the second round before falling 6-3, 6-7 (7-1), 10-8.
Ettore Bona rallied to force a third set in his Flight C opener before losing 6-1, 5-7, 10-6 to Severin Kretchmar of Baldwin Wallace. Bona advanced through the consolation draw to the semifinals, where Jurado Enriquez earned a 6-3, 6-1 victory.
Rin teamed with Edmon Neto for an opening-round doubles victory. The Wabash pair defeated Pil Dueso-Guell and Nihar Girish of the Illinois Institute of Technology 8-5 before Tyler Wood and Dylan Catanese of Ohio Northern University eliminated Rin and Neto with an 8-4 second-round victory.
Eric Tien and Vittorio Bona lost their opening doubles match 8-2 to Kenyon College’s Maximo Llamas and Alejandro Gonzalez. The Wabash duo rebounded with a consolation victory over Christopher Yvars and Alexander Burns of Franciscan University before losing 8-4 to Kalamazoo’s Alex Fleming and Bonanni in the round of 16.
