Local church brings Easter drama service to community

Posted

There are many great churches in Montgomery County, and lots of opportunities to worship on Easter Sunday. However, one church is offering something different.

New Hope Christian Church at 2746 U.S. 231 (a mile south of Walmart) will put on an Easter drama experience for the community, with the hopes of bringing the Easter story to life. Everyone is invited.

“New Hope used to put on these Easter plays in the 90’s, and it was one of the things that made the holiday memorable in this area,” said Tyler Smith, youth minister. “I still have very vivid memories of those services as a kid growing up in this county. I could tell you about specific scenes, what I learned, and how it made me feel even at a young age. Getting a chance to experience the story was a lot more impactful for me than simply hearing a message.”

In 2019, the decision was made to “resurrect” the production. This year will mark the third installment of the drama since it was brought back.

Those who choose to attend the service will take part in some contemporary worship songs with the worship band, communion and hear a brief message. For the rest of the service, church-goers will get to watch and experience the Easter story put on by the cast and crew. There also will be special music, videos and creative elements in the production.

Childcare will be provided for children in kindergarten and younger. Elementary age children are invited to be with their families for the service.

This Easter drama will be offered at 7 p.m. Friday and at 10:30 a.m. Easter Sunday.

“I believe this is the greatest story, greatest message, and greatest truth in the world,” Smith said. “And whether you attend a different church or haven’t stepped foot inside a church in your entire life, you are invited to come experience Easter in a whole new way this year. This Easter, don’t just hear the story — come see it brought to life.”
