ROCKVILLE — A Crawfordsville man is facing charges in Parke County after police said he crashed into a guard shack at a state park while intoxicated.
The incident happened just after midnight Thursday at the Raccoon Lake Recreation Area. According to the Parke County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to the park after a man, later identified as Christopher Porter, 25, of Crawfordsville, allegedly backed his vehicle into a tree near a campsite.
Police said Porter attempted to leave the campground heading toward Rockville. When deputies located the white Ford Explorer and attempted a traffic stop, Porter allegedly refused to stop.
After a short pursuit, Porter crashed into the guard shack at the entrance of the Raccoon Lake Recreation Area. His Ford Explorer rolled onto its side, trapping him inside.
Bellmore Fire Department responded to the scene and extricated Porter from the vehicle. He was then transported to Union Hospital in Terre Haute for his injuries.
Porter is facing charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated with a BAC of 0.15 or more, resisting law enforcement — vehicle or draws/uses a deadly weapon, possession of marijuana, hash or salvia and possession of paraphernalia.
After receiving medical attention, Porter was transported to the Parke County Jail, where he is being held with no bond.
