LOCAL SPORTS: Mountie golfers, Mustangs boys tennis earn wins

Mustangs edge Mavericks

The Fountain Central boys’ tennis team moved to 2-0 on the season with a hard fought 3-2 win over McCutcheon on Wednesday.

Jacob Keeling defeated Jake O’Donnell at No. 2 singles 6-2, 6-2. At No. 1 doubles the duo of Carson Eberly and CJ Yager handed Finn Devlin and Conor Devlin a 6-1, 6-0 loss, while Sawyer Keeling and Carter Merryman defeated Blaec Lessley and Gavri Nodalo 6-0, 5-7, 6-4 at No. 2 doubles to earn the win for the Mustangs.

At No. 1 singles Cody Linville fell to Gavin Dardeen 6-1, 6-1, while Brent Myers lost to Landon Waeltz 6-1, 6-3 at No. 3 singles.

Fountain Central returns to the court on Monday at home against Southmont.

Mounties defeat Eagles at CCC

The Southmont girls’ golf team defeated South Putnam 206-219 at the Crawfordsville Country Club on Wednesday night.

Macie Shirk was the medalist with a personal best score of 43, while Taylor Grino fired a 50, and Bailey Barker a 56.

Hanna Long shot a personal best 57, while Olivia Gray’s 59 was also a personal best. Stella Snook shot a 61 and Courtlyn Carpenter fired a personal best of 64.

Southmont is back on the course Saturday at the Western Boone Invitational.

South falls to CC

The Southmont boys’ tennis team fell 4-1 to Lafayette Central Catholic on Wednesday night.

Adam Cox earned the Mounties’ lone win at No. 1 singles by defeating Dylan Kelley 3-6, 6-4, 6-2.

Luke Tesmer lost at No. 2 singles to Griffin Chyall 6-1, 6-3, while Luke Watson lost at No. 3 singles 6-2, 6-0 to Michael Fusiek.

At the doubles positions, Mason Hall and Micah Korhorn lost to Sam Siemuers and Zach Melvilte 4-6, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles, while Chayce Howell and Harrison Haddock fell 6-3, 7-5 to Nathan Bapst and Calvin Pichell 6-3, 7-5 at the No. 2 position.
