Looking ahead to honoring veterans

Posted

Well is the weather ever going to stay with spring time this year? It looks like it may be coming.

We had 69 incoming calls to my office this past month. We had 20 veterans come into the office. We had 13 veterans transported to clinics or hospitals, but we have about 15 more that will be.

I will be out of the office May 28-30 attending the annual meeting with the Indiana Department of Veteran Affairs in downtown Indianapolis.

I will be at the American Legion Post 72  from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. today and at the VFW Post 1431 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. May 16. If you would like to speak with me, call 765-361-4133.

The third Saturday of each May we celebrate the Armed Services Day, which was founded Aug. 21, 1949, when Secretary of Defense Louis Johnson announced the Creation of Armed Forces Day Stemming from the Unification of the Armed Forces Under the Department of Defense this annual celebration now commemorates all branches during this one Solitary Day. We will celebrate Memorial Day on May 27, which is a federal holiday honoring and mourning the U.S. military personnel who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces from 1868-1970. It was observed on May 30, however, since 1971 it is observed on the last Monday of May.

Senator Braun invites you to Academy Day 2024 at 5 p.m. May 16 at the Indiana War Memorial, 55 E. Michigan St., Indianapolis. This is open to West Point, Navy, Air Force, Merchant Marine and Coast Guard members. Reservations should be made by email to Alex_hickner@braun.senate.gov.
