Lora L. “Tootie” Clawson, 91, of Veedersburg passed away at 11:43 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 7, 2023, at Wellbrooke in Crawfordsville.
Lora was born Oct. 24, 1932, at Kingman, the daughter of Russell and Ida (McElwee) Helms. She married Billy I. Clawson on April 10, 1954, at Sterling. He preceded her in death April 14, 2015.
She is also preceded in death by brother Eugene Helms; sisters, Lois Hand, Beverly Dennis, Ruth Marie Keerns and Mary Jane Kendrick; and great-grandson Kristian Warrick.
Surviving family include: daughters, Dawnna (Mike) Warrick, Covington, and Vicki (Bill) Clauson, Seminole, Florida; son Scott (Tina) Clawson, Veedersburg; grandchildren, Renee Geiken, Keven Warrick, Adam (Mary) Clawson, Jason (Garnet) Dark and Derek (Katherine) Greiwe; great-grandchildren, Allie Wade, Ryan Geiken, Josh Geiken, Shawn Geiken, David Geiken, Malachi Warrick, Matheu McElwee, Tyrzah Warrick, Mareena Warrick, Bill Warrick, Tyler Warrick, Andrew Warrick, Xander Clawson, Kyler Clawson, Winter Clawson and Ember Dark; and great-great-grandchildren, Jackson Phelps, Emmett Key, Wyatt Rector, Tucker Geiken, Harper Geiken and Amelia Wade.
Lora was able to be a stay at home mom, and was always very thankful and appreciative for the time she had with her family; she especially loved her three generations of grandchildren. She enjoyed playing dice and boards games; and enjoyed going to the casino, her most recent casino trip had been on her 91st birthday.
She had enjoyed cooking for her family for many years; and also liked to simply set and read through a cook book looking for new recipes. They had traveled on several cruise ships as a family; and she and Billy had enjoyed many train and bus trips after his retirement. She also greatly enjoyed the weekly gatherings with her sisters for many years; where they would visit, play marbles and eat candy.
Visitation will be 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15 at Dickerson Funeral Home, Veedersburg. Funeral service will begin at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15 at the funeral home, with Pastor Tim Lyons officiating. She will be laid to rest with her husband Billy at the VA National Cemetery in Danville, Illinois.
Memorial contributions may be given to American Legion Post #288 in Veedersburg.
