A former Crawfordsville High School teacher and coach who had sexual relationships with two female students learned his punishment Thursday.

Michael Demeter, 26, was found guilty on two felony counts of child seduction in connection to an investigation that began in December 2016.

Special Judge Hunter Reece sentenced Demeter to four years of home detention followed by four years of probation. Demeter must also pay court costs and was ordered not to have contact with his victims.

As part of a plea deal, five other counts of child seduction were dismissed.

The case began in December 2016 when a man told Sheriff Mark Casteel that Demeter had talked about dating one of his tennis players, according to court documents. School administrators were notified and Demeter was removed from contact with students.

He was arrested in January after two girls told investigators they had multiple, separate sexual encounters with him from 2015-2016.

Demeter was no longer with the school district at the time of his arrest.

The first victim said she was between 17 and 18 at the time.

The other girl said her first sexual contact with Demeter occurred shortly before her 18th birthday.
