An unidentified male suspect is in custody following a vehicle pursuit that began in Tippecanoe County and ended in Crawfordsville on Tuesday.

His name and preliminary charges were not disclosed as of press time Wednesday.

According to information published by the Crawfordsville Police Department on social media, their officers as well as deputies with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office were notified at approximately 5:39 p.m. of a pursuit headed into the county. Dispatch advised local agencies that the Indiana State Police had terminated their pursuit in Tippecanoe County due to the suspect vehicle being driven on a sidewalk, endangering pedestrians. Dispatchers advised the suspect vehicle — a gray Hyundai Sonata with no lights — was spotted south of Linden on U.S. 231 traveling at a high rate of speed and passing other vehicles.

MCSO Deputy Braden Mitchell and CPD Officer Kamden Hoycus began traveling northbound on U.S. 231 in search of the vehicle and spotted it in the area of U.S. 231 and C.R. 700N. The suspect accelerated to speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour and began passing several vehicles in a no-passing zone and a construction zone.

MCSO Deputy Caleb Berry successfully deployed stop sticks near the area of C.R. 400N, however, the vehicle continued southbound towards Crawfordsville at approximately 120 mph. Near the area of Industrial Boulevard and U.S. 231 the suspect nearly crashed into another vehicle at approximately 80 mph. The suspect vehicle continued southbound on U.S. 231 swerving through traffic, appearing to push other motorists from the road.

The vehicle continued through downtown Crawfordsville at varying speeds that ranged from 40 mph to 70 mph. At one point, the vehicle entered the northbound lanes while traveling southbound.

CPD Officer Tim Newlin deployed additional stop sticks at the intersection of South Boulevard and U.S. 231. Although the suspect vehicle had two flat tires, it continued southbound on U.S. 231, operating recklessly and endangering lives.

Once the suspect vehicle passed Purple Heart Parkway, Hoycus conducted an authorized precision immobilization technique maneuver which ended the pursuit and allowed officers to make the felony stop.
