A Ladoga man was sentenced last month to 10 years in prison for his part in years of sex abuse against his former wife’s children when they lived together in the same home.

Keylin L. Johnson, 53, was sentenced July 5 under a plea deal for one count of aiding sexual misconduct with a minor and one count of possession of child pornography.

A sentencing hearing for his ex-wife, Sheila L. Johnson, 45, is scheduled for Sept. 16 after a plea agreement was reached earlier this month. She’s remained at the Montgomery County Jail on a $50,000 surety or $10,000 cash bond ever since the couple was arrested Feb. 27, 2018.

Nearly three dozen felony charges combined were filed against the couple after two siblings told police of the alleged abuse by their mother and her husband dating back to early 2012 when the family lived in Waveland.

As part of a plea bargain, Keylin Johnson also pleaded guilty to two other counts of aiding sexual misconduct with a minor, but Montgomery Circuit Court Judge Harry Siamas did “not find a factual basis to support defendant’s admission,” according to court records.

It was a 19-year-old man and his 17-year-old sister who recounted the abuse to police because, they said, they were concerned for a 13-year-old-sister, according to a probable cause affidavit. The 19-year-old man was under the age of 14 when the abuse began in 2012. At some point, he told police, Keylin Johnson had persuaded him that incest was a “normal way of life,” according to the affidavit.

Keylin Johnson, who was accused of filming some of the abuse on the children, allegedly threatened the 13-year-old that if she called the police, he would show them explicit videos of her and said her mother would go to jail.

Keylin Johnson was charged with 18 felony counts overall, which also included child molesting and aiding child molesting. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison with credit for 492 days served for aiding sexual misconduct with a minor. He was given a suspended sentence for possession of child pornography, and will instead be on probation for 18 months after his release from the New Castle Correctional Facility, which online DOC records project to be in February 2023.

Sheila Johnson filed for divorce more than two weeks after the couple was arrested. She was charged with 17 felony counts, including incest, child molesting, sexual misconduct with a minor and attempted bestiality. Sheila Johnson attempted to perform a sex act with the family’s dog in 2017 after moving to Ladoga, according to court records.
