Maple Grove Extension Homemakers

Posted

The Maple Grove Homemakers met at 1:30 p.m. Aug. 21 at the Waynetown Baptist Church in Waynetown with nine members present. Roll call was answered with your favorite cookie.

We received health reports on Betty Jeffers and Minnie Howard. We did not have any birthdays or anniversaries during the month of August.

Our meeting was opened with a pledge to the American Flag, the Creed and pledge to the Christian Flag. We each received a membership list with addresses. Inspiration was given by President Linda Miller on friendship. Judy McBride informed us that Sommer School suggested that we donate shoes and sweatpants to the school and she was going to investigate a little further. A motion was made by Sandra Lightle to give money to McBride for the supplies.

The secretary report was given by Rita Kirkpatrick and accepted with corrections.  Treasurer report was given by McBride in the absence of Jeffers.

It was agreed that we continue to donate to the Kids Closet and we can bring clothes to our meetings. Carol Vice advised that the Head Start program will kick off on Sept. 6 with four classes of children. She is needing page turners. Judy Tulley advised that the form for ordering nuts would be passed around and that the orders would be accepted this month and again in September.

The Fall Council Meeting will be held at the Beef House in Covington on Sept. 13.  The cost will be $16 per person. If paying by check make it payable to Maple Grove Homemakers and give it to McBride. McBride will get the money to the county treasurer before the deadline.

Our Sept. 18 meeting will be at Lavina’s and the cost will be $22 per person and McBride will need a headcount by the Sept. 11 deadline. Checks should be made out to Judy McBride. If you have guests coming be sure to let McBride know before the deadline.

This year International Day will be a luncheon at noon Oct. 10 and the doors will open at 11:30 a.m. at the 4-H Building. It will be catered by Robin Purtle with food representing Ukraine. The speaker will be Mary Hancock of Lafayette and who is from and will be talking about Ukraine. She will also have a display of painted eggs, plus videos during her talk. Hancock is president of the Tippecanoe Homemaker Club and the members from the Tippecanoe Club will also be invited to attend this meeting.  Maple Grove will decorate the 4-H Building at 1:30p.m. Oct. 9 for this event. Remember, this is a day time meeting.

There was discussion on giving a donation to the church for letting us use their facility.

We did not have a lesson this month. The meeting was closed with members reciting the collect.

Our next meeting will be at 1:30p.m. Oct. 16 at the Waynetown Baptist Church and it will be our annual White Elephant Sale. So, don’t forget to bring all those treasurers you no longer need and be ready to replace them with something new.

Carol Crowder and Miller were hostesses and we had plenty of treats and cake to enjoy.
