The Maple Grove Homemakers met at 1:30 p.m. Oct. 16 at the Waynetown Baptist Church in Waynetown with eight members present.
The meeting was opened by President Linda Miller with the pledge to the American Flag, the Creed and pledge to the Christian Flag. Roll call was answered with “What is your favorite Halloween costume to wear.” Secretary Rita Kirkpatrick gave the secretary report and it was approved as read. Betty Jeffers gave the treasurer’s report. Miller thanked all who helped with the set up/decorations and the tear down at International Day which was at noon Oct. 10 in the 4-H building. Robin Pirtle catered the lunch and she was given a thank you for her hard work. Inspiration was given by Miller on friendship.
Mary Hancock of Lafayette was our speaker and she talked about her family and leaving Ukraine in 1949. She had a display of painted eggs, embroidery and slide pictures to show us of her family. She has maintained several of her Mother’s ways of doing things from Ukraine. This was a very interesting program as well as being an educational lesson for all of us. There were 34 extension members and four guests present for the program.
Miller stated that last month there were 11 present for the meal at Lavina’s and the meeting.
Noodle making days were Oct. 11, Oct. 18 and Oct. 19 at the 4-H building. Noodles this year will be $5.50 per bag. The Holiday Expo will be from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Nov. 4 at the 4-H building. Maple Grove will donate to the bake sale, two cakes, two pies, one quick bread and four dozen cookies. Baked goods need to be at the 4-H building by 8 a.m. Saturday. Ashley Sommers, Sunshine in a Box, will be providing food for the event. Make sure if you are supplying bake goods that you have them there in time for the ladies to have them ready for sale by 9 a.m.
The next meeting will be from noon until 4 p.m. Nov. 20 at the Exhibit Hall (4-H Building). Soup will be provided and Maple Grove members are asked to bring something to go with the soups. We will be making Christmas decorations and Judy Tulley is the hostess for the meeting.
We had a fun time at the white elephant sale and everything sold except one item and we had a good laugh over it. Kirkpatrick was assisted by Sandy Lightle as hostesses and we had apple pie, donut holes and pumpkin bars with apple cider.
Meeting was closed with the extension homemaker’s prayer read by Miller.
