February celebrates the 15-year anniversary of the Franciscan Health Marie Canine Cancer Center in Crawfordsville. The facility has offered expert care and promoted physical, mental and spiritual health for patients and their families since 2009.

“We are very proud to reach the 15-year mark at Franciscan Health Marie Canine Cancer Center,” said Kathleen Nelson, director of oncology for Franciscan Health Marie Canine Cancer Center. “It is quite an achievement to be able to provide consistent enhanced cancer care in a small community for as long as we have.”

Built in part by the generosity of the late Jack Canine, the Marie Canine Cancer Center is named for his late wife, Marie. The couple was well known for their philanthropic nature, as Marie had previously established the Marie Canine Foundation, which funded local charities and scholarships.

“We have great continuity at our facility, as many of the current employees are original or long-time employees at the cancer center,” Nelson said. “Thank you to all the staff and hospital administration, past and present, who have helped to make the Marie Canine Cancer Center a wonderful place for our community.”

The Marie Canine Cancer Center is a comprehensive treatment center close to home for those in Crawfordsville and surrounding Montgomery County communities. The facility provides multidisciplinary treatment for cancer and can help identify and understand specific types of cancer and its disease state.

The Marie Canine Cancer Center features: a state-of-the-art linear accelerator (for radiation therapy), six semi-private infusion bays with televisions, heated recliners and view of the healing garden.

The Marie Canine Cancer Center is both inviting and aggressively focused on healing. The experienced, multidisciplinary team of specialists offers many treatment options, including radiation therapy, chemotherapy and infusion services. The team continues to expand and update services, procedures and technology to provide patients the latest treatment.

Franciscan Health’s board-certified medical and radiation oncologists have many years of experience and advanced training in numerous therapies and procedures.
