Marshall agrees to plea deal in catastrophic neglect case

A Crawfordsville woman charged with two felony counts of neglect of a dependent resulting in catastrophic and serious injury has agreed to a plea deal.

Megan Marshall, 26, was set to stand trial Tuesday in Montgomery Circuit Court but changed her not guilty plea Monday afternoon in exchange for the undisclosed deal. The court has set a sentencing hearing for 3 p.m. Dec. 8.

Marshall was charged with two felony counts after her 3 1/2-month-old daughter sustained life-threatening and life-long injuries Aug. 22, 2019, while in the care of Marshall’s boyfriend, Dylan T. Myers. A jury convicted Myers in October 2022 of one felony count of neglect of dependent resulting in catastrophic injury. The court sentenced him to 30 years in the Indiana Department of Corrections.

A separate jury trial for Marshall began in June but after a day and a half of testimony the judge declared a mistrial. The judge agreed with Marshall’s defense attorney that jurors inadvertently heard two statements on a videotape being played in court that they were not supposed to hear.

The court then gave Marshall a new trial date of Oct. 31.
