Mayor Barton holds fundraising breakfast for local scouts

Posted

The Mayor’s Breakfast for Scouting was held Wednesday morning at Fusion 54. There were scouts from the area as well as representatives from the Crossroads of America Council and Boy Scouts of America. Along with Mayor Todd Barton were Eagle Scouts who spoke of their experiences in scouting. Sam Lovold of Crawfordsville became an Eagle Scout in 2017, Preston Hart of Indianapolis and a sophomore at Wabash College, and Merlin Guthrie of Crawfordsville who became an Eagle Scout in November 1963, the day before President John Kennedy was assasinated.

The key note speaker at the breakfast was Crawfordsville native and NASA astronaut Dr. Joe Allen who related some interesting stories and the importance of education. Dr Allen told the students “you’re not in school, you’re in training.....training for your future adventures”.

The purpose of the breakfast was fundraising. Mark Allen explained that there are scouts who are unable to afford to participate in functions and through donations made to scouting they are able to attend and participate. He himself had financial support to go to some of the places he attended.

The event began with the scouts color guard presenting the flags, giving the Pledge of Allegiance and reciting the Scouts Motto.

If you would like to make a donation to the Scouting program you may send it to:
