MCUF seeks input at virtual public meeting

Montgomery County United Fund will gear up for the annual fundraising campaign, offer more COVID-19 relief to local agencies and toast its 50th anniversary at a virtual public meeting Tuesday.

“We want to hear if they have input for us, if they have questions or if they have concerns,” said Heather Shirk, president of the MCUF board.

United Way of Greater Lafayette CEO Michael Budd will also make a presentation.

The meeting begins at 6 p.m. and will be held on Zoom. Free registration ends at noon Tuesday. A link will be provided to those registered for the event.

Last year, MCUF raised more than $312,400 for 15 nonprofit agencies. The goal for this year’s campaign will be unveiled Tuesday evening.

In July, the organization was awarded $225,000 from Lilly Endowment, Inc. for emergency grants to human services agencies recovering from the coronavirus pandemic. MCUF is handing out another round of the grants this fall.

The money aims to provide rent and utility assistance, access to childcare for families affected by closures, including essential medical and emergency response staff, and access to mental health and substance use services, among other priorities.

Funding guidelines and an application is available on the organization’s website at www.montgomerycountyunitedfund.org. Nonprofits don’t have to be a partner agency to apply.

“We’re just glad to be able to add this to the pot of money that’s available to our county,” Shirk said.

MCUF was founded in 1970 as Montgomery United Fund for You (MUFFY).
