Cassie Miller spent June 11-18 at the National Rural Electric Cooperative Youth Tour held in Washington, D.C. She was selected for this special opportunity through applications with Parke County REMC.

The group traveled by bus to the Flight 93 Memorial in Pennsylvania and then visited Gettysburg. They also toured the Smithsonian museums, Washington Monument, Jefferson Memorial, Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial, FDR Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, Korean Memorial, Vietnam Memorial, Arlington National Cemetery, Iwo Jima, 9/11 Memorial, The Pentagon, Capitol Hill, Library of Congress, Air Force Museum, and Air Force Memorial.

They did sightseeing during the day, but had group activities with the other students. Some of the students were encouraged to give speeches. Cassie gave one about Eleanor Roosevelt.

As many as 1,500 high school students from across the country spend a week in the nation’s capital as part of this tour.

Miller is a senior at Parke Heritage High Schol.
