Crawfordsville Fire Department Chief Scott Busenbark has promoted Paul Miller to Deputy Chief.

Miller joined the Crawfordsville Fire Department in June of 1999 as a firefighter. He also served as Lieutenant until he was promoted in 2014 by Mayor Todd Barton and retired Fire Chief Larry Patton to his most recent role as Division Chief of Emergency Medical Services (EMS).

Originally starting his career for the excitement of being on call, Miller now reflects on his time and has realized that it is really about serving people and our community.

Busenbark shares that Miller will fill a need in the fire department’s leadership and command staff.

“Chief Miller is a valued member of Crawfordsville Fire Department and he brings along knowledge, character and experience,” Busenbark said. “He is an advocate for our fire and EMS continued training efforts and he will be pivotal in helping streamline our training processes and supporting our command staff.”

In his new role, Miller will be responsible for a variety of technical, administrative and supervisory functions under the direction of Busenbark. He will initially focus on organizing, directing and implementing fire suppression and EMS services to ensure preventing the loss of life and property, the mission of the Crawfordsville Fire Department, is being met.

Miller can be described by many as a “big vision person.”

“My entire career I have been fortunate to be surrounded by people and department leadership who have played a significant role in allowing me to be successful in that vision,” Miller said. “Over the last 10 years, our department has received a lot of national recognition for the great work we’re doing. We plan to continue in that positive and innovative direction.”
