The members of the Montgomery County Retired Teachers Association had their December meeting at the Crawfordsville District Public Library on Dec. 11. President Kim Nixon welcomed guests and led the Pledge of Allegiance. The Invocation was given by Deb Howard. A lunch of ham, scalloped potatoes, green beans, rolls and peppermint pie was served by caterer Cindy Long. The group was given a wonderful concert by the Crescendos, led by director Marsha Smith and accompanied by Bill Stockwell. Some of the selections included “When I’m 64,” “Mary did you Know?” “Do you Hear What I Hear,” and the ever favorite “I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas.” This is a favorite meeting every year and we always enjoy the Crescendos.

In the business meeting the minutes from the November meeting were approved and the treasurer’s report was read by Lynn Robison and approved. Nancy Bowes, community service chair, explained to members the importance of volunteer hours. In the past many members from Montgomery County have received the “Clock Award’’ for the many hours they put in every year helping non-profit organizations in the area. We have also had a winner for work with CASA. Member concerns and services chair Mary Lefebvre reported that Christmas cards had been send out to 19 members and a congratulations card sent to Joyce Grimble. One get well card was sent out. Membership chair Kathy Steele reported that we have 137 members. Vice president Steve Frees reported that we still need nominations for secretary and treasurer for the next school year. No new business or old business was brought to the group. The next meeting will be in Feb. 12, 2024 with Dr. Kathy Steele and friends giving a travelogue on a trip take in May 2023 to Egypt. Nixon thanked the people who worked on the December meeting. The meeting was adjourned and door prizes were awarded.
