Wabash College Football Coach Don Morel spoke to the Crawfordsville Rotary Club at their noon luncheon. Morel lived in California and then he and his wife decided to move to the Midwest. Morel has been in coaching for 33 years. He accepted a coaching job for Wabash College and has served four years as an assistant football coach and eight years as the head coach. This year Wabash has 234 freshmen students, of which 62 were football players. When recruiting young men for Wabash, academics is stressed more than talent in the particular sport. When recruiting, the young men are told these three things.."School is hard. Crawfordsville is not a sexy city. There are no girls. Do you still want to come?" This year there are 128 young men out for football. The Monon Bell Game is the climax game for the seniors. The freshmen learn early that Wabash stresses the work ethic more than anything. Study hard, work hard and be a gentleman is stressed for a good year at Wabash College.
