Mounties raise money for Riley

NEW MARKET — Ladoga Elementary School was recognized Monday during the South Montgomery school board meeting for its efforts to raise more than $4,000 for Riley Children’s Hospital during a Riley Read-a-thon on March 8.

Fifty-seven students raised money for the Indianapolis hospital. The program was re-started this year by Ladoga and will continue to be an annual fundraiser for the hospital. Since 1993 the school has raised more than $43,000 for Riley Children’s Hospital.

The read-a-thon also included 22 third through fifth graders stay overnight at the school and participate in games and different reading activities. The night concluded with all the students converging in the cafeteria and watching a movie to fall asleep.

Also approved as part of the board’s consent agenda were stipends for the following: Shelley Allen, varsity boys and girls track coach, $4,000; Marvin Walters, varsity assistant track coach, $1,125; Brad Acton, varsity assistant track coach, $1,125; Bryce Adams, varsity assistant track coach, $1,125; Matt Williams, varsity assistant track coach, 1/2 stipend $562.50; Matt Allen, varsity assistant track coach, 1/2 stipend $562.50; Ron Hess, varsity assistant track coach, volunteer; Robert Johnson, varsity assistant track coach, volunteer, Dan Taylor, varsity softball coach, $5,000; Chet Remley varsity assistant softball coach, $2,000; Kathryn Yoakum junior varsity softball coach, $1654; Barry Lewis varsity assistant softball coach, volunteer; Bill Whalen varsity boys golf coach, $3,000.

Also, Cameron Marine, varsity assistant boys golf coach, $1,500; Rob Reimondo varsity girls tennis coach, $4,000; Kirk Jones varsity assistant girls tennis coach, $1,500; Bill Woods varsity baseball coach, $5,000; Dan Chadd varsity assistant baseball coach, $2,000; Reese Long,  junior varsity baseball coach, $1,654; Desson Hannum, junior high baseball coach, $1,250; Elliott Franklin, junior high baseball coach, $1,250; Eric Mason, junior high assistant baseball coach, volunteer; Justin Bullock, junior high assistant baseball coach, volunteer; Tim Flagg , junior high track coach, $1,500; Amy Reeves, junior high assistant track coach, $1,053; Jim Gary, junior high assistant track coach, volunteer; Josh Gray, junior high boys golf coach, $1,000; Hannah Bowman, junior high softball coach, $1,250; Cayla Dennis, junior high softball coach, $1,250; and Madison Karrfalt, junior high tennis coach, $1,500.

The board’s consent agenda also included extra duty pay for the IHSAA girls basketball regional in the amount of $100 each for the following: Rebekah Thomas, Clay Buck, Shelley Allen, Kelsey Feese, Alison Burris, Dan Chadd, Erin Blaydes, Brad Acton, Raymond Jones and Kelley Hopkins.

Also, extra duty pay for Deryk Benge, boys and girls seasons and IHSAA regional event basketball  clock, $1,640; and Bryce Adams, concessions manager second half of athletic winter season, $750.

The board approved a cosmetology field trip April 22 to DES Convention Center in Rosemont, Illinois for three Southmont students.

Due to the upcoming solar eclipse, the originally scheduled April board meeting has been moved from April 8 to April 15.
