Myron Darrel “Slick” West, 77, of Waveland passed away Jan. 12, 2024.

He was born July 14, 1946, in Powell County, Kentucky, to the late Lawrence and Jennie (Sumner) West. He graduated from Waveland High School in 1966.

Darrell served in the United States Air Force from 1966-1968. He was a Free Mason and served as president of the Waveland Conservation Club. Slick began working at the Waveland Elevator in the 1970s. He then drove a school bus for Turkey Run for several years, and also worked for Mitchell Farms. He loved golf, mushroom hunting and being outdoors. His greatest joy were his grandkids and great grandkids. He was the Greatest Papaw and will be greatly missed.

He is survived by two children, Melinda (Ted) Bowling and Jamey (Joanna) West; five grandchildren, Caleb, Kylie, Maci, Garrett and Makayla; eight grand-grandchildren, Cooper, Dixxii, Emaree, Barrett, Addison, Remington, Haisley and Jethro; siblings, Elma (Frank) Moss, Arlene (Greg) Jones and Charlotte (Mark) New; brother-in-law Jim Denton; life partner Melissa Cooper; mother of his children, Cindy (Miles) Smith; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Waren, Wayne and Michael West; and sister Janice Denton.

A celebration of life service will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 26 at Machledt & Servies Funeral Home, 301 E. Green St., Waveland, with Pastor Rodney Coffman officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 2 p.m. Friday until the time of service.
