Nellie Mae Weatherford, 83, of Crawfordsville passed away peacefully in her home Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2024.
Born March 6,1940, she was the daughter of Earl Cooper and Bill and Mavis Thomas of Lafayette. She attended Wea Ridge and Jefferson High School. She married Robert Weatherford in 1961 and they divorced in 1982.
She was a homemaker and former employee of Ben Hur Nursing Home. A loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed music, dancing, thrifting, yard sailing, true crime television and cook outs with family. Nellie was fun loving and carefree with many friends. She was very much loved and known as “Nana’’ to most everyone in her circle.
Surviving family include: daughter Rischa (Harold) Zaler of Florida; two sons, Rick (Bev) Weatherford of Evansville and Robert Weatherford Jr. of Waynetown; also seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandsons.
She was preceded in death by son Randy Lee Weatherford; parents Earl Cooper and Bill and Mavis Thomas; brother Jerry Cooper; and sister Darlene Richmond.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 24 at the Farmers Institute Cemetery, with pastor Randy Glenn officiating. Arrangements made through Burkhart Funeral Home. There will be a celebration of life ceremony noon to 4 p.m. Feb. 4 at the Crawfordsville Park and Rec.
