Reservations due by Nov. 16

NEW MARKET — The 32nd annual New Market Community Thanksgiving Meal will be served Nov. 19 at New Market United Methodist Church.

Going back to the vision of Bob Tandy, organizers want to reach out to people who are alone at Thanksgiving time. They encourage everyone to join together in the fellowship hall from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. for a traditional homecooked Thanksgiving meal. Delivery of meals also will be available starting at 3:30 p.m. There will not be a drive-thru service this year.

Whether dining in or having a meal delivered, you must reserve your meal by calling the church by Nov. 16 at 765-866-0703 and leaving a message with your name, address, phone number and number of meals.

The annual event has grown from 11 meals served in 1990 to more than 400 meals the past few years. Over the years, people started leaving money at the church or sending checks through the mail as a thank you for the meal. Tandy believed this a blessing from God, and suggested the Sunday School class he led to use the money to help children and their families at Christmas. Today, the church teams with the REINdear Christmas program in Montgomery County and will help 10 children this year.
