North to save $2 million on refunding bonds

LINDEN – The North Montgomery School Corp. board has started the process to gain $2 million by refunding 2018 bonds. The bonds initially funded the $35 million renovation of the corporation’s five school buildings.

The process will pay off the existing bonds with proceeds from a new bond issuance. The corporation will benefit from more favorable terms, including a better interest rate.

The $2 million will be placed into the general fund and earmarked solely for building maintenance and upkeep of the five school buildings.

The proposal will now be presented to the North Montgomery Building Corp. for approval.

The high school gymnasium floor will be replaced after this year’s basketball season. The floor was redesigned in 2019. However, the contractor used material that affected the paint used on the floor. The paint has been peeling due to a bad sealant. Upon further inspection, it was determined the existing floor is too thin to grind off the bad material, so a new floor is needed.

After a $67,000 credit for the flawed material, the cost of the new floor will be $214,735.32. The contractor will be Four Star Floor Care.

The process to replace the floor is expected to take three to four months.

The board heard the terms of the 2025-26 Teacher Agreement. Included in the agreement is a $4,000 stipend for each teacher, payable in December 2025 and June 2026.

A resignation from Director of Transportation Clayton Randolph also was accepted.
