North wrestlers drop meet to Mavericks

North Montgomery’s wrestling team celebrated Senior Night in their last home dual meet of the season. McCutcheon won the meet 56-16, but Charger coach Lincoln Kyle said the meet is a good tune up for this Saturday’s county meet.

“There were some good things happen tonight but we still have plenty to work on”, Kyle said. “I do not focus on the score but rather I want to see improvement. I think we saw improvement tonight and that should help us this Saturday at the county meet.”

North Montgomery’s roster includes seven seniors but only Gage Galloway (160), Marissa Moffitt (138), Todd Laffoon (195) and Dylan Braun (285) were available to wrestle in the meet.

Galloway, who has been battling illness, defeated Eric Harvell with a 13-3 decision. Braun won by fall in 1:50 over Colton Freeman.

Kyle said he is pleased with his seniors this season. North Montgomery (8-4) is a young team as evidenced by five sophomores and one freshman wrestled in the meet but the Charger coach said the seniors have been good examples for their younger teammates.

“The seniors are a great group and they work hard,” Kyle said. “They work hard and are leaders in the wrestling room. I am super happy to have all of them on this team and I only wish I could have had them for four years.”

North Montgomery sophomore Jayden Thompson (152) defeated Clayton Wilson by fall at 3:54 of the match to give his team their third win of the meet.

Other Charger seniors are Christian Hall, Malachi Stevens and Ricky Schoen.

The Chargers are now looking toward the county meet scheduled for 9 a.m. at Southmont. Kyle said he believes the three teams should be competitive against each other

“I try not to focus on wins and losses,” Kyle said. “I just tell the kids to wrestle hard and the outcome will take care of itself. South and Crawfordsville are good and the matchups should be very good,” Kyle said. “We are excited

to compete against the other county teams.”
