COLLEGE SIGNING

Pendleton to swim for Wabash

Jack Pendleton will join a long list of former Crawfordsville swimmers who continue their careers at the collegiate level.

Pendleton recently committed to Wabash College, something he’s worked for since his freshman year as an Athenian.

“I realized right away after my freshman year that I wanted to swim in college,” he said. “The senior class my freshman year had many guys going on to swim in college, so I made that a goal of mine as well.”

Pendleton was a multi-sectional champion and state qualifier in four seasons for Crawfordsville.

“It wasn’t just me who put in the work to get the opportunity to swim in college,” he said. “Coach Hedrick helped push me to be the best I could be. Also my teammates helped — we always are competitive during practice and help push each other.”

Pendleton battled through his senior football and swim seasons with a shoulder injury, and had surgey after the swim season ended to get healthy for his college career. And choosing Wabash was an easy one, for swimming and academics.

“I’ve grown up around Wabash and am aware of the reputation they have in not only their academics but also athletics,” he said. “Coach Will at Wabash is a great coach and helped me feel welcome when visiting.”

Pendleton plans to study accounting and business.
