Peter Pan Jr. flies onto the Vanity Stage

What began earlier this year as a musical theater workshop for local youth has grown into a one-weekend performance of Disney’s Peter Pan Jr.

The production opens today at 7:30 p.m. on the Vanity Theater stage at 122 S. Washington St. Additional performances will be at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

The musical production stars Rylan Dowell as Peter Pan, Thomas Bowling as Captain Hook, Kelsey Thompson as Tinker Bell, Alivia Williams as Wendy and Hutton Haas and Cadan Tyo as the beloved John and Michael.

The production is directed by John Blair, Stefanie Deaton and Linda Kingry. Nicole Thompson is the producer.

Earlier this year professionals shared their knowledge with local youth. Eddie Curry, artistic and casting director at Beef and Boards, taught participants keys to a successful audition. Lacey Kriston, who has done national tours of Beauty and the Beast and Elf and is a performer on the Disney Cruise Lines, worked with the local actors on fine tuning their craft as well as how to prepare a resume and rep book. Workshop participants learned the process of how to audition, how to rehearse and how to perform in the world of musical theater.

For two days at the downtown theater participants will put what they learned to use.
