Crawfordsville Police Department officers responded to multiple disturbance calls Monday involving the same man before safely detaining him.
Police were first dispatched at approximately 1:34 p.m. to Valley Oaks Health after receiving a report of a man destroying property in the lobby. The man had left the premises before officers arrived.
At approximately 2:39 p.m., officers were dispatched to Motel 6 for a report of a man causing a disturbance. The man and a woman had left the area in a gold-colored sedan before officers arrived. Officers later determined the man was the same individual involved in the earlier incident at Valley Oaks Health.
A short time later, while attempting to locate the individuals, a Crawfordsville officer saw a gold-colored Buick near Washington and Spring streets with a door open. A man exited the vehicle and was identified as the individual involved in the previous incidents.
Police said the man immediately made statements indicating suicidal intent and a desire to be involved in a “suicide by cop” incident. Officers safely detained him without further incident, and he was transported for further assistance.
The woman involved in the incident was also investigated and later incarcerated for operating while intoxicated.
No further information was available.
