The City of Crawfordsville invites residents and stakeholders to attend a public open house to learn more about the Crawfordsville Crossing: Railway Crossing Elimination Project. The event will take place at 6 p.m. Aug. 12, at Fusion 54, 101 W. Main St.
The open house marks the third in a series of public engagement opportunities focused on the future of the Market Street/SR 32/SR 47/US 136 and CSX Transportation railroad crossing. Building on input gathered throughout in the planning process, this session will provide an update on project development and design.
In late 2024, the City was awarded $1.12 million from the Federal Railroad Administration under their Railroad Crossing Elimination Grant Program to support planning and development of a grade separation project at this critical intersection. The project aims to address longstanding challenges related to traffic congestion, safety concerns, and emergency response delays caused by the existing at-grade crossing.
The City is partnering with HWC Engineering to advance planning and design efforts that will improve mobility, enhance safety, and create new opportunities for economic development while elevating the overall appearance of the corridor.
At the Aug. 12 open house, attendees will have the opportunity to learn more about the project’s progress and next steps. The project team will be available to answer questions, gather feedback, and discuss how community input continues to inform the planning process.
The event follows earlier outreach efforts, including two prior public open houses and meetings with adjacent property owners. Public participation remains a key component of the process as planning and design move forward.
