Well the weather is mild again. We had eight veterans taken to the VA Hospital and I had 61 phone calls into my office. We also had 19 people into my office to handle claims and answer questions.
We had our Veterans Expo, which was ˆwell received. We had 50 veterans take advantage of flu shots and 48 veterans received the DAR gift book on Vietnam. We also had a number of vendors present. The Hoosier Heartland State Bank gave a $500 50/50 drawing that was won by Stanley Walker. He gave his portion to the DAV.
I will not be at the American Legion Post 72 or the VFW Post 1431 this month. If you still need to see me, call 765-361-4133. The office is located in Suite F of the Montgomery County Government Center, 1580 Constitution Row. This is the former Williamsburg Nursing Home building.
We will be having a Veterans Day Parade following the ceremony at 11 a.m. Nov. 11 at the Marie Canine Plaza in downtown Crawfordsville at Main and Green streets. We will also have golf carts available for those veterans who need them. Contact Gary Bell at 765-366-3638 to get a golf cart. The parade will go past the AT&T Building just east of the post office down to Marie Canine Plaza then will go down Green Street to the south to Pike Street. Everyone is urged to come.
I am sure that everyone has heard that Social Security payments will be going up 8.9% this next year along with the veterans payment for those who are retired or are receiving VA claims also will be getting an 8.9% increase.
Please remember to vote on Election Day Nov. 8.
Hunger and Homeless Week will be observed Nov. 12-20. Supplies needed include, hats, gloves, scarves, blankets, socks, refillable water bottles, hand warmers, coats, flashlights, food items (Raman noodles, peanut butter and jelly). Donation boxes can be found at the VFW Post 1431 and American Legion Post 72.
