FRANKFORT — North Montgomery volleyball’s season might have come to an end on Tuesday night in the opening round of the Class 3A Sectional  22 tournament, but the night still belonged to the Chargers and junior setter Piper Ramey. Ramey early in the second set accomplished a big milestone with her 1,000th career assist. Charger coach Taylor Dyson immediately called for timeout on Ramey was mobbed by her teammates in celebration.

On the night North did fall in three sets to the West Lafayette Red Devils 25-6. 25-18, 25-11. After the game both Ramey and Dyson talked about the milestone. Ramey praised her teammates while Dyson, as she has all season, praised her standout setter.

“It’s a really big accomplishment and milestone, but I have to thank my team for every single assist that I’ve gotten because I wouldn’t be where I am without them,” Ramey said. “With all the ups and downs that we’ve been through, I’m really glad to be a part of this team and them helping me accomplish this.”

Dyson on the night complimented not only Ramey but her entire team for they way they were able to compete with the 21-win Red Devils.

“Just to be able to compete in every match we play was our goal every game this season, not just tonight,” she said. “I feel like them being able to compete with a team as good as West Lafayette is, was a very big deal for them. Piper getting to 1,000 assists tonight is so deserving for her. It really gave the entire team an energy boost too. Piper is an all-around great player and leader for us.”

The Chargers end the season with a record of 12-18. Those 12 wins tie the most in a season since 2017. 2017 seems to be a theme for this Charger team as that was also the last time the Chargers won a county title which they did again this season. As stated in previous stories, Dyson was a senior on that 2017 team and has started to bring life back into North Montgomery volleyball.

“We had a great year,” she said. “There’s so much to look forward to already for next season and I’m ready to get started with these girls again.”

North Montgomery does graduate three seniors in kills leader Annabel Anderson, Ella Fritzen, and Trista Thomas. Dyson also noted how it’ll be tough to say goodbye to those three players that have meant so much to the program over the last four years.

“All three of them have been great for us,” Dyson added. “All of our girls look up to them and they’ve really put in so much work and shown an amazing amount of effort in their time for us. It’s sad to see those girls go for certain.”

There’s plenty of optimism surrounding the Chargers as they will return a majority of their roster for next season. With Dyson leading the way, North Montgomery will look to continue its upward trajectory.
