Richard Lee “Dick” Tunin, 89, of Crawfordsville went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, Jan. 13, 2024, at home while surrounded by his loving family.

He was born Sept. 2, 1934, at Kingman, to the late Cecil Ross and Bessie Florence (Arvin) Tunin.

Dick graduated from Kingman High School in 1952 and proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War and was stationed in Japan. On Feb. 1, 1958, he married the love of his life, Carolyn Jean Slazas. He worked at Raybestos for over 30 years. He loved the outdoors and nature, enjoyed golfing, photography, bird watching, wood working, and genealogy, but most of all he loved spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Carolyn Tunin of Crawfordsville; three children, Rick (Carol) Tunin of Maryland, Bob (Anna) Tunin of Crawfordsville and Shelli LaMaster of Connersville; sister Carole Pendleton of Crawfordsville; eight grandchildren, Ian Tunin, Matt (Katie) Tunin, Ross Tunin, Ana Tunin, Jesse Tunin, Justin Mack, Lilly (Ryan) Hauser and Jamie LaMaster; and seven great-grandchildren, Mekenzie, Madison, Kyle, Branson, Calvin, Charlotte and Hazel.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Don Tunin; and sister Nancy Worley.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 17 at Sanders Priebe Funeral Care, 315 S. Washington St., Crawfordsville. There will also be a visitation at First Christian Church, 211 S. Walnut St., Crawfordsville, on Thursday, Jan. 18 from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. Pastors Keith Strain and Darla Goodrich will officiate and military honors will be conducted by the United States Army and Legion Post 72 Honor Guard. Burial will follow at Oak Hill South Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to First Christian Church or your charity of choice.
