Robert D. “Bob” Pearson, 80, of rural Veedersburg passed away at 8:15 a.m. Wednesday, July 28, 2021, at Wellbrooke in Crawfordsville.

Bob was born March 25, 1941, at West Lebanon, the son of Samuel John and Helen (Rhodes) Pearson. He married Nancy Sanders on Aug. 9, 1964.

He is preceded in death by his parents; son Alan Wayne Pearson; and two brothers, Merl Pearson and Richard Pearson.

Surviving family include: wife Nancy Pearson, Veedersburg; sister Patricia (Richard) Wills, Crawfordsville; brother Donald (Jane) Pearson, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; three grandchildren, Andrew (Jessica) Pearson, Julia (Shannon) Eicher and Joshua (Carolyn) Pearson; 10 great-grandchildren; and daughter-in-law Cheryl (David) Bolding.

Bob graduated from Covington High School in May 1959. He attended Indiana State University, receiving a bachelor’s and master’s degree, majoring in both mathematics and physics. He taught math for two years at Winamac High School, and math and physics for 13 years at Fountain Central High School.

Deciding to change careers in 1978 Bob went to work for the Indiana State Board of Accounts as a field examiner, auditing governmental units in Indiana. During this time he returned to Indiana State University to earn an accounting degree, becoming a CPA in 1989. He was appointed field supervisor after four years and appointed Deputy State Examiner by Governor Bayh in 1989. He worked for the Board of Accounts for 23 years, being the Deputy State Examiner the last 12 years. Along with another state examiner, Bob was in charge of 330 examiners and support staff. Upon retirement in 2001 from the board he was recognized for outstanding service to the State of Indiana by being appointed a member of the Council of the Sagamores of the Wabash, the highest honor given to a civilian from the State of Indiana.

Beginning in 1970 Bob also prepared tax returns with Ron Manning in Veedersburg. And in 2003 he began working as an internal auditor in CentreBank in Veedersburg, as he enjoyed his retirement.

On March 10, 1964, Bob and Nancy had a son, Alan. Alan graduated from Rose Hulman as an electrical engineer, and he had three children before his untimely death from an automobile accident Oct. 29, 1992.

Bob was a member of the Sterling Christian Church, working as the treasurer 1980-2016, while also serving as church elder. He enjoyed helping people, and serving the Lord. He enjoyed playing golf, and being retired with Nancy, his best friend for 57 years of marriage, plus six years of friendship prior to their marriage.

A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 2 at Sterling Christian Church, 701 S. Sterling Ave., with Pastor Gary Johnson officiating. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 2 at the church and continue until the time of service. Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Covington.

In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer memorial contributions be given to Sterling Christian Church Building Fund.
